Winner scoops £2,000 in Broadland Community at Heart Lottery

13 August 2021

A local resident has won £2,000 after matching five numbers on the Broadland Community at Heart Lottery.

This is the biggest win to date for the lottery, which was set up by Broadland District Council to provide a free online platform for not-for-profit organisations to help them raise funds for valuable community services.

The Broadland Community at Heart Lottery has raised more than £21,400 for local good causes – including schools and nurseries, charities, music groups, wellbeing services and sports clubs – since its first draw at the end of February 2021.

The recent £2,000 winner is a supporter of Aylsham Community Gym, which was one of the first good causes to sign up to the Community at Heart Lottery.

Derek Player, Trustee of Aylsham Community Gym, said: “We are a true community gym, so although we charge members a no-contract monthly fee, we are a registered charity and all our income goes back into providing services to our members. Membership fees do not cover all our annual expenses, such as the purchase and maintenance of  cardio and weights room equipment, therefore fundraising is an important and never-ending task for us.”

Councillor Trudy Mancini-Boyle, Deputy Leader of Broadland District Council, said: “Congratulations to our £2,000 winner – our biggest win so far! I’m sure Aylsham Community Gym really appreciates their support, as do all of our good causes who are receiving regular funds thanks to our generous supporters. The Community at Heart Lottery is an exciting way to support your favourite local cause and be in with a chance of winning prizes – you might even scoop the £25,000 jackpot.”

Players can choose from 56 Broadland-based good causes to raise funds for when they play the lottery and for every £1 ticket bought, 60p goes to local good causes in the Broadland area and improving the community.

Derek Player added: "The Community at Heart Lottery provides the gym with a steady income stream and many of our members and supporters buy tickets every week. It has also raised our profile beyond Aylsham with several new members signing up as a result."

Players have a one-in-50 chance of winning a prize up to a maximum of £25,000 and you can sign up at www.communityatheartlottery.com for entry into a weekly draw. To date, £5,825 has been paid out in prize money.

The draw results and winners are announced every Saturday at 8pm.
